West Ham United has announced a number of players have been released, with American defender Jonathan Spector being one of them.

Having played for the London club since 2006, Spector racked up over 100 appearances for the Hammers in that time and become a major part of his country's defensive unit. He's been capped 31 times by the USMNT.

Only 25, Spector could pick up with another club in England or he may prefer a move to Major League Soccer if the right offer comes along. The former Manchested United player is free to sign with whatever team he chooses after the release.

PRAGUE (AP)—Czech Republic defender Zdenek Pospech has been signed by German club Mainz to a two-year-contract.

Pospech’s agent Pavel Zika said Monday a deal has been signed for Pospech to move after this season when his current contract with Danish side FC Copenhagen expires.

The 32-year-old defender moved to Copenhagen in 2008 from Sparta Prague on a 3 1/2-year contract.

Pospech picked up a yellow card in a 2-0 home loss to Chelsea in the Champions League round of 16 on Feb. 22 and will miss the return leg in London.

He has scored two goals in his 24 caps for the Czech Republic.

Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne has been banned from driving for six months for passing a "No Entry" sign to head the wrong way on a one-way road. The Ireland international was stopped for the offense by police in September. The 31-year-old Dunne was banned for the relatively minor offense because he had been penalized for other offenses.
