Spain's Alvaro Quirós had a hole in one on his way to victory over a strong field that included the world's top three – Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Tiger Woods – to win the Dubai Desert Classic.

After shooting a triple-bogey when he was three shots clear, Quirós had his hole in one at the par-three 11th. He ended up beating Anders Hansen of Denmark and the South African James Kingston by one stroke.

The big names all faded on the final day. Woods finished with a double-bogey seven for a 75 and joint 20th place with another Spaniard, Sergio García, who triple-bogeyed the ninth. The long-time leader, Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, fell back to 10th. Westwood, the world No1, finished 15th after dropping three shots in the last two holes.

The big-hitting Quirós, who had treatment on his arm while he was on the course, took his fifth European Tour title with a closing 68 and an 11-under-par total.
