AS Roma accepts Claudio Ranieri's resignation (AP)

ROME (AP)—AS Roma has accepted the resignation of coach Claudio Ranieri amid expectations that former star Vincenzo Montella will take over.

Ranieri offered to quit following his team’s 4-3 loss to Genoa in Serie A. Roma led 3-0 before Genoa fought back with two goals each from Rodrigo Palacio and Alberto Paloschi.

It was Roma’s fourth consecutive loss.

AS Roma says it has agreed to end Ranieri’s contract, which was set to expire on June 30. Montella, a former striker who played for Roma when it last won the Italian title in 2001, will reportedly take his place.
