Ghana Striker Asamoah Gyan Convincing Sunderland's Danny Welbeck To Join Black Stars (Goal.com)
Ghana and Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan said he and his national team captain John Mensah are persuading England-born Ghanaian Danny Welbeck to join the Black Stars.
"He has not made up his mind yet and says he needs more time to think through it,” Gyan told KickoffGhana. “Myself and Mensah have spoken to him about playing for Ghana."
The Wearsider has represented England right from the U-17 to U-21 level, but seems undecided where his senior international fate lies at the moment. The Ghana FA is also intensifying efforts to sign on the 20-year-old.
Welbeck, who is currently on loan at the Stadium of Lights from Manchester United, was born in England, but to Ghanaian parents hence his full name Daniel Nii Tackie Welbeck.
The Ghanaian marksman said it would be a delight to have his team mate partner him in the national team.
"He is a very good player, young and talented so he will be helpful to Ghana, but we need to give him more time," Gyan added.
